Hogwarts' best kept secret is not Salazar Slytherin's other chamber, nor that wardrobe in the sixth room on the South corridor that leads to another world, or even Filch's well-hidden passion for embroidery. It is an unimportant secret, in the great scheme of things, but to those involved it swallows the world.
Lavender loathes Parvati.
Parvati is eleven and the most beautiful girl in the world. Lavender, who isn't, marinates in envy. It takes Lavender an hour each morning to charm her hair to waterfall straightness and her eyes to glittering stars. Then she crawls carefully back into bed, and yawns her way out of the curtains with the others. Four weeks into the first term Parvati wakes up early after a nightmare about talking ducks with swords carved out of carrots. Lavender, choking on bitter bile, begs and pleads. Parvati, smiling over her new friend, promises never to tell.
You see, the thing is, Lavender is perfect through and through, not hollow inside like some people. Lavender knows this, is sure of this, and batters down the little voice shouting terms she only half understands: projection, role reversal. They're not important, but Lavender knows what is. Parvati needs to be told, it's only fair. The truth is a beautiful thing. Just like her. But, like Parvati, this gorgeous candour will crack and scatter, shards slicing indiscriminately, if exposed too soon. Wait. Aim.
LavenderandParvati, the lovely girls (vapid say the whisperers), chained tight together (a little too tight go the rumours). Who else is to match them? (Exactly.) When Parvati goes to her best friend to ask why anyone would twist their friendship like that, Lavender laughs and says 'because it's true'.
'I'm sorry' says Lavender, and 'I should have told you' and 'I love you'. Parvati melts and sighs as the other girl talks of forbidden love, transcending, all-consuming passion and desire. As they kiss tentatively for the first time, Lavender, the voice behind the gossip, curls her lips in something like a smile. In this at last, Lavender is first.
1) Kiss gently along the jaw line, feathering touches across skin
1) Real date, kisses and chocolate
1) Finger trapped between slim thighs, intimate screams
1) Love, time to stop waiting
1) Broken heart, figure curled small on the floor whispering curses
Power, first and last.

(And your Accidentally in Love icon is adorable!)
Everyone has been saying that recently, and it is both wonderful and depressing, as I didn't make it.

Great job. This was a lot of fun!!

I loved 11 year old Lavender and her quest for beauty and her sneaking back to bed once she was done to look like she woke up that way.
Excellent. I'm really glad that came across, because I wasn't sure if it was slightly too vague.

Thanks. You know, it never really occurred to me that Lavender was going to really extreme lengths just to get what she wanted. That says nothing good about me. o_O
