Dedicated Heliotropism (Lavender/Parvati - PG-15)

Thing the first: Met someone I used to go to school with today. He has clearly used the six years since then productively in becomming A. Sex. God. I was this " close to saying 'Hi there. Would you like to sleep with me? Right now?' Instead we had a very proper conversation about University. Blargh. I don't want conversation...

Thing the second: Had a much more interesting coversation with [info]sugartits, where we made many interesting and valid fandom-related points. Really.

Look how clever and witty we are. Yay us etc etc ad nauseum.

Thing the third: Have at last finished the Cookie Jar ficlet. Huzzah!

Title: Dedicated Heliotropism
Author: Alix
A/N: Written for the Cookie Jar challenge and [info]rekichan, who requested A Parvati/Lavender femmeslash fic, if you please. Go hog wild with it, I just crave a well written fic that doesn't invole Harry, Snape or Draco. Hawhaw.

Beta-ed by [info]sugartits, who is nagging at me to post this so I'll keep it short. So, without further ado or gilding the lily...

~*~*~*~
Hogwarts' best kept secret is not Salazar Slytherin's other chamber, nor that wardrobe in the sixth room on the South corridor that leads to another world, or even Filch's well-hidden passion for embroidery. It is an unimportant secret, in the great scheme of things, but to those involved it swallows the world.

Lavender loathes Parvati.

Parvati is eleven and the most beautiful girl in the world. Lavender, who isn't, marinates in envy. It takes Lavender an hour each morning to charm her hair to waterfall straightness and her eyes to glittering stars. Then she crawls carefully back into bed, and yawns her way out of the curtains with the others. Four weeks into the first term Parvati wakes up early after a nightmare about talking ducks with swords carved out of carrots. Lavender, choking on bitter bile, begs and pleads. Parvati, smiling over her new friend, promises never to tell.

You see, the thing is, Lavender is perfect through and through, not hollow inside like some people. Lavender knows this, is sure of this, and batters down the little voice shouting terms she only half understands: projection, role reversal. They're not important, but Lavender knows what is. Parvati needs to be told, it's only fair. The truth is a beautiful thing. Just like her. But, like Parvati, this gorgeous candour will crack and scatter, shards slicing indiscriminately, if exposed too soon. Wait. Aim.

LavenderandParvati, the lovely girls (vapid say the whisperers), chained tight together (a little too tight go the rumours). Who else is to match them? (Exactly.) When Parvati goes to her best friend to ask why anyone would twist their friendship like that, Lavender laughs and says 'because it's true'.

'I'm sorry' says Lavender, and 'I should have told you' and 'I love you'. Parvati melts and sighs as the other girl talks of forbidden love, transcending, all-consuming passion and desire. As they kiss tentatively for the first time, Lavender, the voice behind the gossip, curls her lips in something like a smile. In this at last, Lavender is first.

1) Kiss gently along the jaw line, feathering touches across skin

1) Real date, kisses and chocolate

1) Finger trapped between slim thighs, intimate screams

1) Love, time to stop waiting

1) Broken heart, figure curled small on the floor whispering curses

Power, first and last.

Oh my giddy aunt. I got recced. Properly. By [info]quickquote. *hyperventilates* Now I'm just waiting for the email saying "sorry, Alix, we put your fic up by mistake. The problem has now been rectified." I'm also squeeing. A lot. But that's beside the point.
::EDIT:: And again. I love this fandom :D

I love you. So very very much. Why? Why can you write like this? Merciful Zeus, I enjoyed reading this! I love the last line, it's really insightful. You are, in truth, The Don. And I have a present for you. A Proper, Spent-Money-On-It Present, not a usual 'Fliss-is-bored-so-will-present-the-nearest-person-with-a-sweet-wrapper-she-found-in-her-bag-to see-their-reaction-present.' An actual Present, which was seen by me in a Shop and Purchased with you in mind. THAT kind of a Present.

Simply fabulous. I love the line about "marinating in envy" best. You have quite a way with words. (And your Accidentally in Love icon is adorable!)

Thankyou, thankyou and thankyou again. Mmmmm....praise...:D

(And your Accidentally in Love icon is adorable!)
Everyone has been saying that recently, and it is both wonderful and depressing, as I didn't make it. [info]slythwolf has that particular honour, and if you credit her she won't mind a bit if you want to take it.

That was very good. I loved 11 year old Lavender and her quest for beauty and her sneaking back to bed once she was done to look like she woke up that way. Also, mastermind!Lavender was quite fun.

Fav line: LavenderandParvati, the lovely girls (vapid say the whisperers), chained tight together (a little too tight go the rumours). Who else is to match them? (Exactly.) When Parvati goes to her best friend to ask why anyone would twist their friendship like that, Lavender laughs and says 'because it's true'.

Great job. This was a lot of fun!!

Yay evil!Lavender *cheers*

Excellent. I'm really glad that came across, because I wasn't sure if it was slightly too vague.

I enjoyed reading this loads. It was written well, and you have a way with language and vivid descriptions ("marinates in envy" is lovely), and I loved Manipulative!Lavender, with her spreading rumours and charming her hair and eyes before everyone wakes up. Well done.

Ooh, hello bitter ficlet. That was great - I loved Lavender's jealously in this, and the lengths she'll go to to deal with it. Mm. That ending is killer. I <3 it. *slinks away happily*

*loves on you*

Thanks. You know, it never really occurred to me that Lavender was going to really extreme lengths just to get what she wanted. That says nothing good about me. o_O
